I wish to move the following Motion:
This council views with great concern the Government's plan to introduce mandatory digital identity cards and, noting the anxious approaches councillors have received from residents about the associated risks and infringement of their civil liberties for a project likely to cost billions of pounds when so many other sectors are struggling for funds, therefore resolves to ask the Chief Executive to write to the Prime Minister, urging him to abandon this costly, illiberal and unnecessary proposal and to invest instead in badly needed funds for deserving local government services"
