Councils face a funding gap of more than £2 billion next year (2025/26) as the Local Government Association warns against any “disastrous” further cuts in the Autumn Budget.

To effectively reduce pressure on healthcare systems, improve health outcomes and tackle inequalities it is vital to involve local government in shaping the upcoming 10-year plan for health.

"We’re pleased to see the inclusion of a ban on Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions which are the primary cause of people presenting to councils as homeless. This is something the LGA has long-called for."

A new 'snapshot' survey by the LGA reveals that councils are calling for the extension of the 'move-on' period, the time between an asylum seeker receiving a decision on their application and having to leave Home Office funded accommodation, to ease the financial impact on Local Authorities.

The Local Government Association is calling for the scrapping of single word ratings in Care Quality Commission assessments of councils’ adult social care services, following the decision to end single word ratings in Ofsted inspections.

“The LGA is working with councils to advise government how to achieve its stated aim of tackling anti-social behaviour."

The LGA responds to the publication of the final report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

“It is encouraging that the new Minister has signalled he is open to looking again at flexibility around virtual attendance at council meetings – something the LGA has been calling for since 2021."
